What were
those
lights in the sky?
And what did they have to do with my peppers?
The moon hung low in the night sky, casting a silvery glow over the rows of plants in my garden. I have often found solace working in the garden as the long summer days slip into the night, but that evening felt different. As I pulled weeds from the rich soil that cradled my prized pepper plants, a soft hum began to fill the air. I paused, sensing a shift in the night.
Looking up, I saw them—three bright orbs darting across the night sky, weaving in and out of the clouds. They danced with an agility that defied the laws of physics, leaving me breathless with wonder. My heart raced as I watched, captivated by their movements. The air crackled with energy, and then, as suddenly as they appeared, the lights vanished into the night.
The sight shook me, yet the magic didn’t end that night. Over the following weeks, my garden transformed. The pepper plants, which had been struggling under the weight of the summer heat and drought, exploded with life. The vibrant fruits increased in size and abundance, their colors ranging from deep greens to fiery reds and yellows.
With such a bountiful harvest, I was running out of room to store all of the amazing peppers. It was quite the dilemma. I couldn't allow all those peppers to go to waste. Inspiration struck as I remembered the flavors of hot sauces I had enjoyed collecting over the years. It was time to combine my passion for gardening with my love for culinary adventures.
In my kitchen, I began experimenting with recipes, mixing different varieties of peppers with spices and vinegars. The first batch of sauce bubbled invitingly on the stove, filling the air with an intoxicating aroma. Except that when my family arrived home they acted as if had set off a tear gas bomb in the house. That was the last batch I cooked inside. I labeled my creation “Ben’s Pain Sauce” as a nod to the heat and the “pain” that the peppers brought (and my family complained about).
As weeks turned into months, my little project grew into something much larger. Friends and family were eager to share in the fiery experience, and soon, my hot sauce found its way into the local market and restaurants.
The unusual events of that night lingered in my mind, becoming a source of motivation. Perhaps the UFOs had sparked something within me, a newfound determination to embrace the unexpected. As I bottled each batch of sauce, I couldn’t shake the feeling that my garden had been touched by something beyond our world, turning a quiet night into the start of a flavorful journey.
